Alan Fletcher: Fifty years of graphic work (and play)

I recently got the chance to go to an exhibition of one of my favourite graphic designers, Alan Fletcher. How lucky was I that this exhibition was happening only 10 minutes walk away from my flat!

Alan Fletcher was the most prolific graphic designer of the 20th Century and his legacy continues to influence global trends in graphic design. This will be the first time that Manchester and beyond will see such a vast and important retrospective archive celebrating fifty years of the designer’s work (and play).

The Alan Fletcher exhibition runs at the CUBE (Centre for the Urban Built Environment) in Manchester from 22nd January 2010 to 3rd March 2010.

The CUBE always has a wonderful way of filling its fairly small gallery space with wonderful treasures, and this exhibition was no different. The exhibition went through the many stages of Fletchers different companies and partners, starting with some of his earliest and most iconic works.

As with much of Fletchers work, this exhibition was bursting with colour, each piece displayed really showed the visitor a glimpse into the genius of Fletchers designs. An iconic designer who created many clever and interesting graphic work which works on so many intellectual levels, from a typography Vespa to a series of collaged calendar images, Fletcher has a way of making simple but impactive work.
